I hope everyone enjoyed Beggar's Night and didn't eat too much candy while watching the Cubs stare down elimination! We have an extremely busy week here at Stilwell with wrestling, basketball, and the much anticipated Beauty and the Beast production. Remember, if you have not gotten tickets, you can purchase them at the front office. The dates and times of the shows are listed below:

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I know I had a GREAT weekend since my Cubs won!! It will be a fun and exhausting week hoping they can win 4 more! Thank you to all the families that attended conferences last week. I hope you got answers to any questions you may have had or are connected with teachers to make sure your child is supported moving forward. We really do value your partnership in this process.
We are in the transition from Fall activities to Winter activities. Activities that are starting or performing in the coming month.
Our Student Council is running a Winter Warmth drive starting Monday, October 24. The details are provided below:
There is only 1 team winner for the whole school. ****The team that earns the most points will win an extra G day. Social Studies teachers will keep track of the points. We think that G day will be Jan. 10th. **** Please help us support those who need our help! I hope you have a wonderful week!! I hope everyone had a great weekend and was able to get some rest for the busy week ahead! This week we will be celebrating Profriend Week at Stilwell. Here are the themes that we will be celebrating each day.
We also have conferences on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Conferences are from 3:00-7:00 Tuesday and Thursday. If you have not signed up, please go to the Stilwell website or contact the front office, so we can allocate time to meet with your child's teachers. Finally, we also have our Best Buddies breakfast on Thursday morning at 7:00. This is a great opportunity for your child to meet new people and develop new relationships with students with disabilities. If your child is interested in being a part of this wonderful program, encourage him or her to attend the breakfast on Thursday. Like I said, we have a lot going on this week! Hope to see you at conferences! Have a great week! I hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off, or at least your children did! I wish we could have this past weekend's weather all year round! This week marks the end of our fall sports with two "Cross Town Rivalry" events with Stilwell vs. Indian Hills football game on Tuesday and Volleyball on Thursday. Should be a fun week!
We will be piloting a new process for checking in visitors to Stilwell. The system will help us know who is in our building at all times, which is part of keeping students and staff safe. How it works:
Want to know more? For more information about the Raptor system and the district's use of the visitor check-in system, please see our "Frequently Asked Questions" available here (http://bit.ly/2dXrIdx). Thank you for your understanding and support of enhancing school safety protocols in our school. Have a great week! Amazing how fast a month can go by! I hope everyone had a good weekend. Sorry to all the Cyclone and Hawk fans! As we start a new month, our students will start to transition from mostly review work to new and more challenging material. Please remember if you have concerns to reach out to your child's teacher or team. If you ever want to email your child's team, you can reach them at stjh(initial of team)@wdmcs.org. For example, if you wanted to email the T team, you would email [email protected]. Your email would be received by all teachers on the T team. We want to partner with you in the educational process of your child.
October 18th, 19th and 20th are the dates for Fall Conferences. The opportunity to sign up for conferences will begin Monday, October 3rd starting at 8 am. We strongly encourage you to set up an appointment to meet all of your child's teachers. Conferences is a great way to learn about the skills your child has been learning, problem solve if their or concerns, or learn how the you can partner to support your child. Here is the link to get signed up for conferences! https://www.canyoncreeksoftware.com/scheduler/ia/wdmcs/index.cfm Once again, this fall our school district will be administering the Iowa Youth Survey to our 6th, 8th, and 11th grade students. The purpose of the survey is to collect information about Iowa youth so we can better understand their beliefs, values, and decisions about what makes them feel secure, strong, and safe in their communities, schools, and families. In addition, information is collected about their ideas on alcohol, tobacco, drugs, bullying and harassment, and violence prevention. The information collected will help the state planning agencies, our schools, and local community task forces put together valuable future programming. It is important to ask children to tell us what is good and working about their life in Iowa, and what needs improvement, in their eyes. We are in the process of scheduling when this survey will be administered. Here are some dates to highlight for the month of October:
I would like to start off by thanking the Stilwell community for the outpouring support. It is never easy to lose a friend and colleague way before their time. We can't thank you enough for volunteering and rallying when we needed support and strength. Mrs. Zenti was a creative, positive, and upbeat teacher who always saw the potential in all students. We will never forget the impact Mrs. Zenti had on the Stillwell community and will honor her by keeping her spirit alive!
It is amazing to think that we are now almost halfway through our first quarter. Teachers should have grades up-to-date. We will be sending home notifications if teachers have concerns at this point. This will give everyone an opportunity to problem solve before the quarter ends. Another opportunity to partner with supporting our students are our Parent Teacher Conferences. We will be sending out information for signing up for conferences in the next week. Fall conference dates are October 18, 19, and 20. Conferences will run from 3:15-7:00 on Tuesday and Thursday. We want to partner with you in the education process and hope you will attend fall conferences. Finally, we are in the middle of our one and only fundraiser of the year, which is our Magazine sale. We had a short assembly last week to kick off the fundraiser. On Thursday we had our "Power Hour" making phone calls to family and friends to make magazine and cookie dough sales. We did not miss any class time during this activity, as we built a modified schedule to ensure learning was not compromised while our "Power Hour" was going on. Tomorrow is our first turn in day. During this day, students bring in any sales they have made over the weekend. Our final turn in day is next Monday, October 3. We do appreciate all your time, effort, and support in making this endeavor a success! Have a great week! Welcome to Homecoming Week! We have a jammed pack week full of fun activities at Stilwell and the greater Valley community!
Dress-up days for the week:
Evening activities celebrating Homecoming Week:
On top of all the fun Homecoming festivities, we are starting our one fundraiser this week. We have our magazine kick off assembly Tuesday. Thursday will be a modified schedule to do our "power hour" of making contacts and selling magazines. The schedule has been modified to make sure students are able to attend all of their classes. Please let us know if you have any questions. It is going to be a busy fun week! I hope you all had an opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! We are back to a full week of school with many things going!
I hope this finds you rested from a beautiful Labor Day weekend and excited for the week ahead! We have a busy week with athletics getting their seasons started, Open House, and Dowling vs. Valley Friday Night!
